iPhone rival pipped to pack super sharp screen and quad-core chip
The Samsung Galaxy S III is finally here. After constant rumours and denials, and cancelling an expected launch at Mobile World Congress, Samsung has just sent out press invites to an event imploring us to 'Come and meet the next Galaxy'.
The event is dated May 3, and it's doubtless a launch for the Galaxy S III, Samsung's long awaited successor to the iPhone-rivalling Galaxy S II. The date itself is a bit of a clue - 5-3 looks awful similar to S3, eh?
No details have been mentioned on the invite, but past relatively reliable rumours have suggested that the new Galaxy will be packing a 1.5GHz quad-core Exynor processor, and a 4.6-inch screen with display tech that will take on the iPhone 4S's Retina display in sharpness and pixel density. The actual display tech is Super AMOLED HD, with a 720x1280-pixel resolution, while a 12-megapixel camera with LED flash has also been murmured. And as the Galaxy S II has now had its update to the latest Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich, the Galaxy S III will indubitably come out of the gates all Ice Cream'd up.
Of course, with Samsung's growing range of Galaxy products, including several tablets, we may even be lucky enough to come away with the Galaxy Tab 2 or Galaxy Note 10.1.
We will find out if all of that is true in just over two weeks. As for a shelf date, that's still looking like the height of summer.
