Huawei Ascend G300 heads to Vodafone

12 April 2012

Android smartphone for £100 on pay-as-you-go or free on £15.50 contract

If you are in the market for a budget Android smartphone, another contender for your cash is on the shelves from Friday, the Huawei Ascend G300.

It really does look to be a contender too, not least because the Ascend G300 is already down for an upgrade to the Ice Cream Sandwich variation of Android later this year. Although at launch, you'll be looking at Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for the operating system.

Aside from that, the phone offers up  a single-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a four-inch WVGA touch screen, a five-megapixel camera, 2.5GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot to boost storage further.

So not bad for an entry-level phone on the face of it. Vodafone has a three month exclusive on the smartphone, which it will be selling from this Friday. If you want one, it is being offered for £100 on pay-as-you-go or you can opt for a contract deal. Pay out £15.50 per month for a 'free' phone and get a monthly allowance of  100 minutes, 500 texts and 250MB of data.

If that appeals, you know where to go on the high street (or online). Alternatively, sit tight and wait three months for general availability.
